Shipping Information
One of the most common questions we receive from people looking for a puppy is "Do you ship?"
The short answer is yes, we do ship and we offer multiple shipping options.
Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs.
A note about flying puppies: We will not fly a puppy until it is at least 8 weeks old and has seen a veterinarian. Generally speaking, a Buhund puppy can fit in a airplane cabin between 8-11 weeks. From 12 weeks onward, the puppy will be too big to fly in the cabin under the seat and will need to be flown in cargo.

Option 1: Buyer and Breeder meet in a public place.
Option 2: Buyer picks up the puppy from Breeder's home.
Option 3 Breeder or Non-Licensed Ground Transportation: The Breeder, or a friend of the Breeder, drives with the puppy to your home.
Option 4 Licensed Ground Transportation: A licensed canine transportation service is hired to transport the puppy via car or van to your home.
Option 5 Flying: Buyer transports puppy in-cabin or the puppy is flown in cargo to the Buyer's nearest major airport.
Typically, when flying in cabin most buyer's fly into Flint Bishop Airport to pick up their puppy, however, some may choose to fly into Detroit Metro Airport.
Typically, puppies/dogs are flown in cargo out of Detroit Metro Airport but for some destinations, Flint Bishop Airport may be the better option so please check both of these airports when finding your cargo flight.

How to get an accurate estimate of the cost to fly a puppy/dog in airline cargo
When researching airlines you need a couple things on hand - the weight or estimated weight of the puppy or dog at the time you intend to fly them, the weight and accurate dimensions of the crate they will fly in, and add on 5 pounds for the "emergency" food, bowls, pee pad or towel, and paperwork that gets put in/on the crate during the flight.
Estimating puppy/dog weight:
Buhund puppies at 9 weeks old are 8-9 pounds, at 10 weeks they are 9-10 pounds, and so on.
Adult Buhunds are 31 to 40 pounds for most males and between 26 to 35 pounds for most females.
Airlines can be very picky about how much space a dog has in the crate, some even require the ears to not touch the top of the crate when the dog is standing.
Getting an accurate estimate for crate dimensions and crate weight:
Expect puppies up to 5 months old to fly in a crate that is 28" L x 20.5" W x 21.5" H and weighs 10 pounds while empty. These crates cost $46.00 after MI sales tax.
Expect puppies 6 to 10 months old to fly in a crate that is 36" L x 25" W x 27" H and weighs 16 pounds while empty. These crates cost $80.00 after MI sales tax.
Expect females 10 months and older, and some males on the smaller side, to fly in a crate that is 36" L x 25" W x 27" H and weighs 16 pounds while empty. These crates cost $80.00 after MI sales tax.
Expect most males 10 months and older to fly in a crate that is 40" L x 27" W x 30" H and weighs 30 pounds while empty. These crates cost $91.00 after MI sales tax.
After you have an accurate estimate of the dog's weight and the crates weight, add on 5 pounds for the "emergency" food, bowls, pee pad or towel, and paperwork that gets put in/on the crate during the flight. This is the "total weight" you need to provide the airlines with. The airline will weigh and measure everything before departure and adjust any charges accordingly if necessary.
How to figure out your total shipping charges
Add together the following:
The cost of the crate you need listed above ($46.00-$91.00).
The cost of an airline travel kit or airline approved bowls (approximately $20).
The cost of the exam and veterinary health certificate required by the airlines for your dog to fly. Please let us know if you will also need a letter of acclimation from the veterinarian if the weather is expected to be cold/hot prior to this veterinary appointment. This is typically $200 and covers the veterinary exam, veterinary health certificate, and our time off of work to attend the appointment. If the puppy is required to have a rabies vaccine before flying, that can add on up to $25.00-$50.00 depending on which vet can see your puppy. You will receive a copy of the Veterinary receipt and a breakdown of final costs with your paperwork. Puppies/Dogs sold at the age of 16 weeks and older will have their rabies vaccine and will not need a new one.
Transport to the Detroit Metro Airport - This cost may vary depending on current gas costs and the amount of hours we need to take off of work (if any) depending on the time/day of the flight.
If you find an appropriate size crate, airline travel kit, or other supplies you are more than welcome to have it shipped to our home for us to fly your puppy/dog home in instead of using the crate/supplies we buy.

Flying in-cabin
To fly your puppy in-cabin (typically 12 weeks or age and younger) you will need to ensure that the puppy will fit in a carrier underneath the seat in front of you for the specific airline/aircraft that you are looking to fly on. You will also need what is commonly referred to as a "Sherpa Bag". You must bring this with you when you fly in to pick up your puppy.
We recommend Sherpa Delta™ Airlines Pet Carrier which fits pets up to 16″ in length, 10″ in height, and 16 lbs. in weight. This carrier measures 17″ L x 11″ W x 10.5″ H and weighs 4.10 lbs.

Another carrier to consider if the airline will allow expandable bags is the Sherpa Expandable Travel Pet Carrier which fits pets up to 16″ in length, 10″ in height, and 16 lbs. in weight. This carrier measures 17″ L x 10.5″ W x 11″ H and weights 2.85 lbs., however, when fully extended measures 19″ L x 20″ W x 11″ H.
